Children of All Ages Benefit from Regular Dental Check-ups

Beginning when your children are young, they should practice good oral hygiene. The best way to instill this in your Child at Dentistchildren is to make regular dental appointments when they are still quite young. Dr. David Foster in Columbia, TN knows how much children can benefit from an experienced children’s dentist. Children of all ages, starting from when their first tooth comes in until they are in their teens, will enjoy the fun, encouraging atmosphere we have created at Creekside Family Dental Center.

When should my child first see a dentist?

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that your child’s first dentist appointment should occur around the time he or she turns one. Regular check-ups – once every six months unless otherwise directed should continue after the first appointment. By taking your child to the dentist at such a young age, the process will become a normal, expected part of his or her life.

How can I help prevent damage to my child’s teeth?

First and foremost, educate your children on how to maintain excellent oral health. Bringing them to our office is a great way to do this. We teach kids how to correctly brush and floss. Our goal is to create an entertaining and informative dental experience for your child. Other ways you can keep their teeth healthy are to make sure their diet is balanced, and doesn’t have too many dark-colored foods and beverages that could stain their young teeth, choose healthy snacks instead of sweets, and encourage kids to drink a lot of water.

What services do you provide for children?

In addition to regular check-ups and cleanings, we provide fluoride treatments and orthodontic procedures. Fluoride protects young teeth from staining and cavities – which could lead to gum disease. Around age 10 – 14, we recommend that your child come in for an orthodontic consultation. For children that need braces to correct their mouth, starting orthodontic care in this age range can be extremely advantageous. Their bones have not fully formed yet, which makes it much easier to accurately guide their teeth and jawbone.
