It’s not a topic anyone likes to think about. That uncomfortable, “uh-oh” feeling that something isn’t right. The good news is, many dental issues are fairly slow-growing. That doesn’t mean your trusted dental team in Columbia, TN wants you to ignore them. In fact, it’s just the opposite. We encourage twice-yearly checkups so that we can keep an eye on your oral health, and catch small problems before they get big. But if you are experiencing a sudden onset dental issue, we encourage our patients to call our office for a same-day appointment to address is.
Before A Dental Emergency
The thing about emergencies is that you never know when they will happen. So take a few minutes to program our office number in to your phone. You might also find it helps to have it stuck on the refrigerator with a magnet, or written on a piece of paper in your purse or wallet. You can also take preventive steps such as making sure your children wear mouthguards during sports.
During A Dental Emergency
Remain as calm as possible. Contact our office, if you are a current patient, so we can advise you. If there is no bleeding or trauma (for example, if a crown has come loose, or a toothache is becoming increasingly painful), we have new patient procedures in place and can see you in consultation. If the emergency is severe, new patients may need to visit an emergency room for immediate care, and call us for a follow up appointment afterwards.
After A Dental Emergency
If you have been seen in our office, we can provide you with aftercare instructions and a schedule for follow-up appointments. If restorative care is needed, we can plan with you to replace a missing crown, perform a root canal treatment, or use bonding and contouring to smooth out a chip or crack.
